I emptied Christian’s backpack last night and leafed through his homework. I found a two-page worksheet about personal grooming and health habits with a series of little places for him to draw himself performing the tasks like brushing his teeth, clipping his nails, and using a tissue properly.
About 16 self-portraits in all, each and every one featured a completely naked Christian brushing his teeth, clipping his nails, and using a tissue for his runny nose.
His teacher’s comment: “Good ideas! Put clothes on them!”
I just don’t get it. I thought it was my job to embarrass him.
My only hope now is that they aren’t drawing portraits for President Bush’s visit to town today. Those secret service guys have NO sense of humor.
hmmm, I’m sensing a naked theme with your children’s drawings . . . are they both bad at drawing clothes or is there something else you would like to tell us?
If the problem is that he doesn’t want to pick up another color, perhaps you could encourage him to start with purple, or something non-skin-like. Somehow, naked purple people don’t seem nearly as suggestive.
I think it’s great that he is still innocent enough to see no problem with nakedness. . . . He is doing this innocently isn’t he?!?
