The job search has led me to an opening for a copywriter doing catalogue work.  I haven’t written a catalogue since I was in the fifth grade and my best friend, Kelly Rawson, and I spent several afternoons and several reams of paper making mail order catalogues with our original fashion designs.  We designed a lot of sarong skirts and off-the-shoulder gowns.  Then we’d pencil in our text: “This flowing skirt will take you from the office to the party with the greatest of ease.  Fully lined.  Machine washable.  Available in ecru, leopard print, and salmon.  $39.99″

Unfortunately, we didn’t save any of our catalogues.  We trashed them when we decided that instead of becoming fashion designers, we would take a stab at archaeology.  After archeaology, Kelly decided that she wanted to be an astronaut, but I wasn’t on board for that one.  It probably threatened to interfere with my rock star career.

So, during the interview, when the guy asks me if I’ve had “catalogue experience”, do you think it’s okay for me to say I do?
